Big take-aways are:
- Everyone considering college or trade school should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online in January. Students and parents / guardians can get their FAFSA ID online now!
- Scholarships & grants are FREE MONEY - doesn't have to be paid back.
- All loans must be paid back.
- Most financial aid is based on financial need, and some is based on academic merit.
- It is important to compare financial aid offers (called "packages") from schools to really understand what you're being offered because they are each completely different.
