------------

Dear families,

My name is Mr. Grandel. I am the orchestra director at the FRCS. I would like to encourage parents to consider their children learning a musical instrument and to join our orchestra program. During these uncertain times, I think it is even more important for children to learn to play a musical instrument and to expose ourselves to beauty of music and arts.

Students in Third, Fourth and Fifth grade can join our beginner orchestra. Our after-school orchestra program is free of charge.

The beginner orchestra schedule is:

Mondays and Thursdays2:45 p.m. 3:30 p.m. Beginner String Orchestra (including Guitars)3:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. Beginner Band (including Pianos)

Please complete this registration form if you would like your child to participate in the orchestra program.

Please return the completed form to me via email to [email protected]

I believe the best way to prepare a child to play an instrument properly is to provide them with private lessons with a professional music instructor. I can provide a list of recommended local music teachers. Some are offering private lessons in our after-school music program at FRCS (via zoom). The private lessons are typically $30 per half hour on a weekly basis. If you need an instrument, I can recommend a place to purchase or rent one locally.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Be sure to spread the word and let other FRCS families know about our orchestra program!

Click here and here to view two short TED talks about the importance of learning a musical instrument.

Also, be sure to check out these videos from the previous FRCS showcases including percussion, brass and string instruments. These can help your children to decide if they are interested in learning to play an instrument.

The returning intermediate orchestra students (or new students who have been playing for several years ) schedule is on Wednesdays and Fridays at 2:45-3:45. There is no need to reregister, just to let Mr. Grandel know you will be participating again.

Sincerely,

Mr. GrandelFRCS Orchestra Director
