This message was sent to families from FRCS Board of Trustees Chair Kathleen Crawford on Friday, 10/16.
The Board of Trustees has been meeting weekly on succession planning to fill the anticipated Executive Director position. Last week, we decided the best course of action for the school would be to launch a formal nation-wide search. We have since publicly posted our Request for Proposals to hire a professional executive search firm to help us undertake this process. I’m happy to share that we are learning the best time to search for a new school leader is November – February, so our timing is good. Once a search firm is selected, there will be a busy period of listening sessions. In keeping with our FRCS community traditions, the board wants to hear the voices of teachers, staff members, students, and families. Please think about what you want, need, and hope for in our next Executive Director. We’ll be reaching out for feedback as we progress.
In the meantime, along with the Foxborough Regional Charter School Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Annie Azarloza, Director of Teaching and Learning, as Interim Executive Director, effective November 1, 2020. As Acting Interim, Annie will oversee Teaching and Learning, Instruction, Professional Development and Curriculum. Annie has served FRCS over the past 15 years in roles including teacher, Instructional leader, Director of World Languages and currently Director of Teaching and Learning. Her leadership experience and commitment to the FRCS community position us for a seamless transition.
Annie will temporarily fill the position long held by Dr. Mark Logan, who is retiring from FRCS to work in the private sector. While Mark will leave us full time at the end of the month, he will continue to support the school in an advisory capacity until the end of December. Dr. Logan has served as Executive Director since 2005 and we thank him for his dedication, commitment and strong leadership for the past 18 years.
In addition to Ms. Azarloza, Heidi Berkowitz, Director of Outreach and Development, will take on the role of Interim Chief of Staff and will oversee the functions of Outreach, Communications, Operations, Finance and Human Resources. Ms. Berkowitz has been with the school since its inception in 1998 and brings a broad range of skills acquired through her many leadership roles during her time at FRCS.
I am grateful to Ms. Azarloza and Ms. Berkowitz for their willingness to serve in these Interim positions during this transitional period. I look forward to working closely with them throughout the next several months as I lead the Board of Trustees in a national search for the next Executive Director.
