On Friday, November 14, Foxborough Regional Charter School Elementary will proudly participate in Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, a national day of recognition honoring the strength, courage, and impact of Ruby Bridges. At just six years old, Ruby became the first Black student to integrate an all-white elementary school in Louisiana in 1960 — a powerful moment in the movement for civil rights and educational equality.
Ruby’s story reminds us that children can be leaders of change, and that courage, fairness, and compassion can make a lasting difference. As a school community that values diversity, equity, and belonging, we are honored to celebrate Ruby’s legacy and uplift the lessons she continues to teach the world.
How We Will Celebrate Together:
Students who ride the bus will participate in a unity walk through campus
All K–4 students and staff are encouraged to wear purple, a color symbolizing justice and solidarity
Elementary students will read The Story of Ruby Bridges and engage in meaningful conversations in class and during library time
Students will create artwork and hold signs celebrating courage, kindness, and the belief that every student deserves respect and opportunity
If a student chooses not to wear purple, they should follow the FRCS dress code.
This day is more than a walk — it is a learning experience rooted in empathy, reflection, and hope. Together, we will honor Ruby Bridges’ legacy and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every child in our community feels seen, valued, and supported.
At FRCS, we believe our students have the power to inspire a better tomorrow — one step at a time.
