Begin the Direct Certification process to determine eligibility of students for free school meals and ensure continuation of benefits as prior year eligibility ends. USDA requires School Food Authorities to conduct direct certification at least three times a year including at or around the beginning of the school year. DESE recommends conducting direct certification more frequently to capture new students and benefit changes.
