Welcome New Students in Grades 5-9! Everyone at the school is excited to welcome you to FRCS. We have a number of programs to help you to transition to the new school.

If you are entering grades 5-8, please click Here to read the Letter for New Students. This welcome letter contains important information from current students.

All new students in  5-8th grade are paired with current students through the New Student Ambassador Buddy Program. These students act as buddies for new student during their entire first week of school. They give tours of the school, help you find a place to sit at lunch and have a list of important topics to discuss with you to help you to be successful in the new school.

New 5th grade students also participate in Nature’s Classroom in October which is a 4 day sleepover retreat focusing on science experiments and community bonding.  The cost for the trip is $450 and it takes place the week of Columbus Day.  However, if your family is experiencing financial hardship, please contact Mrs. Karen Calvert <> at the business office for more information. For more information about the field-trip, please contact 5th Grade Science Teacher, Susanne Kraus <>.  Nature’s classroom is a tremendously fun, educational and exciting learning experience for the students. We highly recommend all new students attend.

All new 6th & 7th & 8th grade students participate in a weekly advising class with their Guidance Counselor.  This class will give you a chance to meet your peers, as well as, learn about meaningful topics such as bullying, test taking skills and college planning.

All new 9th grade students will meet with their Guidance Counselor to discuss class placement and other important topics for success in high school.

Tips for new families:

*Here are some things you can do to help make your child’s transition to our school as easy and productive as possible.

*Click here for the school supplies list. Don’t forget to buy your child a flash drive and attach it to a key-chain with their name on it so it doesn’t get lost.

*Click here for summer reading information. All students who are enrolled before the first week of school must complete all summer reading. Please request books from the library as soon as possible.

*The New Families Back to School Picnic will take place in August at FRCS. Please contact the parent liaison Karen Harris ( for more information about the date and time of this event. While parents are meeting other parents and staff, new students will get to meet some current students and also participate in some fun games.

*Your child will be given a schedule on the first day of school. The schedule has a list of teachers on it. After your child has been in school for 2 weeks, please email all the teachers to help make a strong home-to-school connection. Use the staff directory.

*Don’t forget to check the FRCS calendar weekly. Open house and back to school night are important events that will give you a chance to meet your children’s teachers.

*Parent-teacher conferences will be advertised on the calendar. Spots fill up quickly so email your children’s teachers as soon as possible to set up conferences.

*Look out for your SchoolBrains username and password which will provided to you around your child has started school.   SchoolBrains is the key to staying up to date with your child’s grades and assignments.

*Encourage your child to see the computer teacher to get their FRCS computer username and password. You child can see their homeroom teacher to get their own SchoolBrains username and password.

We look forward to welcoming your child to our school!
