Student Scholarship Opportunities for
Foxborough Regional Charter School Seniors
The Foxborough Regional Charter School Scholarship, Grant, and Memorial Program (FRCS-SGMP) administers several scholarships, which are awarded annually to deserving members of the FoxboroughRegional Charter School (FRCS) graduating class for their continuing education. Any student whoseeducational goals include enrollment at an accredited post-secondary institution (including two- or four-year colleges, business schools, trade schools, and military academies) is eligible to apply for these scholarships.
The scholarships available for the graduating class of 2009 and requiring submission of this application include:
Michael G. McGinty Memorial Scholarship $2,000
Honoring the life of Foxborough resident Michael G. McGinty who died in the Twin Towers on 9/11, this scholarship recognizes an outstanding commitment to service within school and community.
Olivia Robyn Wood Memorial Scholarship $1,500
Honoring the life of former student Olivia Robyn Wood who enjoyed the arts, this scholarship acknowledges distinction in English and writing, and exceptional dedication to dance, drama, music, or a sport.
The PIE Scholarship $1,000
Created to assist a promising student who can demonstrate both the need for financial assistance and a strong potential for success in attaining their continuing education goals.
FRCS Memorial Scholarship $1,000
Created to honor the senior who best exemplifies the core beliefs upon which the Foxborough Regional Charter School was founded, this scholarship is dedicated to the memory of departed members of the FRCS community.
Seniors may apply for more than one of the scholarships listed on this application, but only one of these scholarships will be awarded to any one individual,. The only exception is the Trustees Scholarship for Academic Excellence which is not selected by the FRCS-SGMP. (The Trustees Scholarship for Academic Excellence is awarded automatically to the student in the senior class with the highest grade point average.) FRCS students may be candidates for other scholarships awarded by their home community’s school system or other sources and still apply for one of the scholarships listed here; in fact, the FRCS-SGMP urges seniors to explore all of their options in this regard.
Recipients may use funds received from these scholarships for educational expenses only. Such costs include tuition, fees, room and board, books, uniforms, or any other item designated as mandatory by their post-secondary institution of choice. Scholarship funds will be disbursed to the institution of higher learning; one-half of the award on July 1, one-half on December 1.
A completed scholarship application must be submitted to the Guidance Office no later than April 17, 2009 at 3:00 PM. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Scholarships will be announced and awarded during graduation exercises in June.
If you have any questions or require assistance completing the scholarship application, please contact David Elsner, Guidance Counselor, at 508-543-2805 ext. 577 or Frank Holmes, FRCS-SGMP Chair, at 508-297-2300.
