Noah Miller, Grade 6 takes the lead to support young children in need! Service and leadership are integral components to the educational experience here at FRCS.  We strive to teach skills and to promote meaningful opportunities for students to learn and lead.  Because of this focus, it is always highly rewarding to see one of our students take the initiative outside of school and promote their passion and efforts to help those in need.

Noah, an FRCS 6th grader, is one shining example.  Noah is once again partnering with the Kids Cancer Buzz Off program to raise money for pediatric cancer patients.  I asked Noah about his involvement:

Necesitamos voluntarios! Welcome a Student From Spain – Be a Host Family This Summer!

Necesitamos voluntarios! Welcome a Student From Spain – Be a Host Family This Summer!

FRCS is launching a student exchange program with school in Spain! The program will kick off this summer and will include student exchanges over the February and April breaks each year with an organization called: STEP.

If you want to learn more about STEP, you can check out:  Our long term goal with this organization is to help FRCS identify and connect with a sister school in Spain over the next few years!  This would ensure that FRCS students can always exchange with Spanish students and long term, that FRCS can create a unique relationship with a sister school beyond just exchange!  Our vision is that elementary students (perhaps too young to travel, etc.) could Skype, “pen pal” and that teachers could collaborate if we develop a sister school relationship!

If you are interested in participating, we are now accepting applications for FRCS staff and student Read the rest

Book Donations Update! Congratulations Third Grade!

Book Donations Update! Congratulations Third Grade!

booksA BIG shout out to our K-4 staff and students with special recognition for Ms. Erin Hoak for coordinating this effort!

In preparation for the FRCS World Book Night, our elementary team collected 5,011 donated books in just a few weeks!

These donated books will be given to elementary students attending World Book Night! Our third grade students win a “no dress code day” for donating the most books. More importantly, the success of this donation drive underscores our students and staff’s generosity and commitment to service.

Beyond the number of books notated, one of the greatest impacts of this book drive has been the conversations with students about why we donate and the value of giving back to others. Even at a very young age, students can learn about service and what it means to give back.

In addition to our annual World Book Night activities, we have a new outreach element to the event Read the rest

Redesigned SAT

Apr 7th 2014
When students open their SAT test books in spring 2016, they’ll encounter an SAT that is more focused and useful than ever before. The full specifications of the exam along with extensive sample items for each section will be available on April 16, 2014. Major changes are described below.
The Basics

  • The redesigned SAT will first be given in spring 2016.
  • The SAT will be offered in print and, at selected locations, on computer.
  • There will be three sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, Math, and the Essay.
  • The length of the SAT will be about three hours, with an added 50 minutes for the essay. Precise timing will be finalized after further research.
  • The exam will once again be scored on a 400- to 1600-point scale. The Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section and the Math section will each be scored on a 200- to 800-point scale. Scores for the Essay will be reported separately.
