Bridgewater State University WOWS FRCS Grade 6 Geography Students

Visitors from EarthView (Center for the Advancement of STEM Education at Bridgewater State University) brought to FRCS a 20-foot inflatable globe and a really exceptional lesson!

Grade 6 Geography students had a GREAT experience!!

The EarthView is both a fascinating teaching tool and a delicate work of art. The outside is a hand-painted, large-scale map of the Earth’s surface, showing biological communities, rivers, seas, landforms, continents, islands, oceans, and major cities. The inside is a two-story, portable classroom that reveals the positions of continents, islands, and landforms relative to tectonic plate boundaries and ocean spreading centers. All of the detail on the outside of EarthView is visible during sessions inside the globe … though in reverse!

The goal of the program is not only to teach students about the world, but also to emphasize the need for more geography instruction in primary … Read the rest

Help a Needy Family in Nicaragua – Help Us Reach Our Goal We Are Already 1/3 of the Way There!

FRCS Students Travel to Nicaragua – Donations Needed for Building Materials/Habitat Project

FRCS has partnered with FNE International to build a home for a disadvantaged family in Nicaragua.

A group of our very own high school students will be traveling abroad with Mr. Alger to build this home WITH the family!  That’s the really nice aspect of this project — they get to know the family while working together to make their dreams come true!

In order to achieve this goal, our students must raise enough money for the building materials that are required to build this home.  They have created a Go Fund Me page to help with this endeavor.

All donations will help our students build this home for the family – click here to visit their GO FUND ME donation page.

Resources for Managing Stress – How to Talk to Children about Crisis

Developing coping skills for stressors is important for student success.   Stress is a daily part of life.  Good and bad things can both introduce anxiety, distraction, emotional changes, and variations in behavior.  Common stressors for students include medical or mental health concerns for themselves or someone they care about, transitions between grades or school levels, perceived expectations of themselves or that others have of them, bullying and rumors, receiving recognition for academic or other accomplishments, college admissions, social or peer relations, trying out for a team or club, or risk taking behaviors.

Managing stress is important for all students to achieve at their highest level academically.   All Department of Students and Families staff are available to support students in coping with stress.

Resources

An excellent resource for families and students regarding a wide range of stressors is the FOCUS Adolescent Services organization at Focus Adolescent Services.
