Hot Topics! Spotlight on Summer Sun & Safety
Hot Topics! Spotlight on Summer Sun & Safety
An Ounce of Prevention- Heat - To help protect kids from heat illness:
- Teach kids to always drink plenty of fluids before and during an activity in hot, sunny weather — even if they’re not thirsty.
- Make sure kids wear light-colored, loose clothing.
- Make sure your kids only participate in heavy activity outdoors before noon and after 6 PM.
- Teach kids to come indoors immediately whenever they feel overheated.

Those who participate in sports or strenuous activities should drink some extra fluid before the activity begins. They should also drink at regular intervals (every 20 to 30 minutes) during the course of the activity and after it ends. April National Poetry Month – Grade 3 Declamation Contest Results
April National Poetry Month – Grade 3 Declamation Contest Results
In April, students in Grade 3 work on a poetry unit to celebrate National Poetry Month. Throughout the month, they experiment with writing different forms of poetry as well as reading to understand poems. They conclude the unit with a Declamation Contest.
First, students choose a poem that they find interesting out of books by famous children’s poets. Most of these poems are silly but promote good use of reading fluency skills and strategies. Then, the students are responsible for memorizing the poem. Finally, students work on fluency, dictation, and actions to accompany their poem. On Tuesday, April 23rd, all students had the opportunity to share and be “Poetry Tellers” as part of the 2nd annual FRCS World Book Night.
This was a great opportunity for students to practice presenting their poems before the preliminary round of the competition. The following day was the preliminary round in each Grade 3 … Read the rest
