School Brains Parent Portal: New Features!
FRCS launch on December 13 several updates to our community portal! Thanks to the great feedback that we received from our families, several improvements have been made, including the addition of a contact information feature. Attached is a parent guide to the portal updates. It includes screen shots and directions on how to use each feature. Below is a summary of the new features:
Menu page: They have simplified the menu page. It now contains links to the different portal pages – student or parent.
Assignments and classes pages: Non-graded courses like AE or clubs have been removed from “Assignment” and “Classes” page. It will make these pages easier to navigate for families!
Grade information: The “Grades” page has been improved. It uses a “report card style” view of grades for current year.
Behavior information: FRCS will not be using the Behavior Tab in the portal at this time. As … Read the rest

MEFA Art Competition, Grades K-5
In the spirit of promoting arts education, MEFA, with support from the Massachusetts Department of Education and Secondary Education, sponsors an annual college savings art competition. All students will receive a certificate commemorating their participation.
Massachusetts students in grades k-5 at all private, public and charter schools are invited to submit a piece of artwork illustrating “What do I want to be when I graduate from college”.
It is our hope that this contest inspires your children to think about their future and all of the exciting possibilities that lie ahead. This opportunity carries with it monetary prizes (up to $5,000) earmarked for college saving for the top entries.

Family Holiday Event, December 14th
You are invited to the Scholarship and Grant Committee’s 2013 Family Holiday Event. Please join us at this year’s event in the FRCS cafetorium for breakfast, crafts, silent auction and raffles to support the program.
Volunteers are needed to help set up on Friday evening from 5-7pm, man tables at the event and clean up after the event from Noon to 2pm. Please email us at FRCSScholarship@gmail.com if you are available.
The event will be held from 9am to 12pm, to cover the cost of food and crafts there will be a minimal fee of $12.00 per family, purchased online auction items will be available for pick up (no charge).
A limited supply of hand decorated fresh Christmas wreaths will be available for purchase ($20.00 each)

Save Postage Stamps For the Holocaust Stamps Project! Current Count: 3,330,523
Students, staff, parent volunteers, and friends of FRCS have been saving, trimming, and counting cancelled postage stamps since 2009 as part of a Community Service Learning initiative, the Holocaust Stamps Project.
Five years ago, an ambitious goal was set – to collect 11 million stamps to visually illustrate the enormity of that number of children, women, and men having been killed as a result of prejudice, racism, and discrimination by the Nazi regime. Six million Jewish people and five million others considered by Germany’s dictator to be “enemies of the State” are being honored and memorialized by each of the collected stamps.
Thousands of the stamps are being used, by small groups of talented middle and high school FRCS students, to create a series of 18 unique collage pictures that reflect causes and effects of the Holocaust. Long-term plans are for a public venue to be found where … Read the rest
Caregiver Education Program – Eldercare Services
“Caregiver 101” provides information on community resources, support and respite services for elders and their family caregivers. Participants will receive materials to create a caregiver notebook and will learn successful strategies for managing elder care planning and family decision making. This training is not for professionals.

Foxborough Regional Charter School holds an Annual Public Open House in January. This evening event includes an overview of the FRCS enrollment process, K-12 curriculum, student leadership and community service learning programs and is a great opportunity to meet staff and students!
The event begins promptly at 6:30PM, doors open at 6:00PM. A formal presentation by a Board Member, the Executive Director, the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Director of Students and Families is presented in the gymnasium. Immediately following the presentation, families have the opportunity to tour the school, visit classrooms and meet with teachers and Instructional Leaders in the Academic Resource Center to discuss curriculum. A special introduction for Kindergarten families continues in the gymnasium immediately following the formal presentation.
